EGM – Export General Manifest

EGM is a detailed document submitted by the carrier or shipping line to customs authorities, listing all the goods being exported from the country. It includes details like shipper’s name, cargo description, and shipment quantity. Filing an accurate EGM is essential for customs clearance, and it signifies that the goods have been exported successfully.

IGM – Import General Manifest

IGM is a mandatory document filed by the carrier upon arrival at the destination port. It lists all the details of goods being imported, such as consignee information, vessel details, and nature of cargo. This document helps customs officials verify the incoming cargo and proceed with the necessary checks and clearances.

VGM – Verified Gross Mass

VGM is a safety measure introduced under the SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) convention. It requires shippers to declare the accurate weight of their packed containers before loading onto the ship. This ensures that the ship’s stability is not compromised due to overweight or misdeclared containers, reducing the risk of accidents during transit.
